This story is definitely from the uplifting series, and there are at least a few reasons for that. For one of those reasons, hundreds of couples went through it during this crazy 2020. This chapter is called “Pandemic.” So, in short, you plan your wedding well in advance, at least a year ahead, everything is going smoothly, you’re excited about your date, everything is slowly falling into place, and suddenly bam! In March, you find out there’s a virus from China spreading, and basically, you’re told to stay safe at home until further notice. You sit, waiting patiently, but there’s no end to the epidemic. You start thinking about a different kind of “cancellation”: should you cancel the wedding, should you cancel the venue, should you appeal to the highest authority and ask for the cancellation of restrictive decisions? Then, luckily, the next chapter arrives: “Postponement”—and the avalanche starts, you reschedule everything and everyone, there’s a series of correspondence with the photographer, and suddenly, phew, you don’t have to wait until autumn, the new date is August 8th. The title of the next chapter is “Bees”—they have a personal thing for bees, they have bee tattoos, embroideries, bee-shaped gifts in all forms of declension. And do you know what’s adorably romantic about this beekeeping story? August 8th is the Great Day of Bees in Poland; the priest prepares a sermon about the beehive, and so, on this hot August day, we continue. The next chapter: “Friendship”—at the wedding, during the speeches, it turns out that Paulina is marrying her best buddy, flatmate, friend, someone she spent half her life with without realizing she loved him. When they finally realized it was more than just friendship, they decided to get married. It’s simple, that’s how it should be, that’s how life is worth living. The next chapter fits perfectly: “Photographer’s Tears”—please, have no doubt that I spent half of those speeches in the palace hall bawling my eyes out with emotion. My motto is “weddings for life,” and such emotions are only surpassed by Disney productions. It couldn’t have gone without the chapter “Palace”—because, in essence, the epidemic continues, there’s talk about distancing and isolating the elderly, so what do they do? They go for it, a VIP box for the older generation, dancing in the palace courtyard, grandmas on the balconies, like in a theater, with a prime view (no, unfortunately, they didn’t have opera glasses, but it would have been incredibly photogenic). And perhaps we need a chapter called “Adventures” because it was absolutely not a standard wedding. The dance interludes were from the top shelf of visual and auditory delights. In the reportage, you’ll see Efrem’s sister singing such captivating music that for a moment, you forget you’re photographing a wedding and transport yourself to a Berlin concert. Dad makes a huge cake that enters like a superstar, and mom gives a performance, and for a split second, your brain suggests that Violetta Villas paid a visit. Finally, a small dose of Lindy Hop, just to make you wonder if you’ve ever danced in your life because if what they’re doing on the dance floor is dancing, then what you do on the dance floor feeling like the disco king is something else entirely.
The description of this story is long, but this day was absolutely full of emotions, and we jumped into it like a plum in a compote, swimming with them in a fruity, aromatic abyss of joy. That’s how I feel. I fell in love with them at first sight, and seriously, we had never met before, yet their whole family has an energy as if we’ve known each other for a hundred years.
If I had to end this with a chapter starting with “P,” knowing that you’ve already decoded my trick, it would be “Beauty” because they had it, both inside and out, accompanying them.
Super day. P&E, I’m so glad I was there with you.
Time for the photos.
